Over several decades from the 1960s to early 2000s, hairdresser Harry Godwin shot films in the local area, first on 8mm cinefilm and later VHS tapes. In 2023, he gave Cheadle Discovery Group a small collection.
The majority of the footage has now been digitally captured, and Cheadle Discovery Group held a screening event in February 2024. The event included footage of a pram race, Godwin’s shop, building and opening the swimming baths, Cheadle Festival 1979 and the last train in Cheadle. The footage will eventually be made available on YouTube.
