The History of Cecily Mill Video

The first textile mill was established on the site in the 1850s. The site went through a number of different owners but provided a lot of employment in Cheadle. The site continued to be used for textiles until the mid 1980s, when it was taken over by JCB who built a new factory on the site.

JCB sold the site in 2017 and the land has since been re-developed for houses. The street names of Brough Grove, Nicolson Road and Hall Close are a tribute to the site’s past.

This short video was created as part of the 2019 Staffordshire History Festival and tells the story of the various mills and owners of the site.
