Cheadle Remembers the Great War

In 2014/2015, Cheadle Discovery Group led a series of HLF funded activities for the town’s Great War commemorations. Part of this was an event in August 2015 called ‘Cheadle Remembers the War Horses’. The day recreated the events of August 1914 when horses from Cheadle and the local area were requisitioned by the army at the start of the Great War.

Legacy items from the project were a booklet about Cheadle during 1914-1918, a plaque and information board in the Market Square and a sculpture dedicated to the animals who served in the Great War, which was installed on the town’s main car park.
